Relying on the kindness of strangers... from another country

My partner and I just took a cruise from Barcelona to Rome. It was wonderful. At the end of the cruise we stayed at an airport hotel and decided to go back into Rome like the locals. We took a shuttle to the airport, then a train to the center of the city. We had lots of time in Rome and had great moments in the Roman Forum and the Colosseum.

We used Google Maps to get back to the train station and after a while it just stopped working.

We had gone way out of our way when we asked a young gentleman walking along the street if he spoke English. He did. He told us he was a student from Algeria getting his PHD in healthcare services. He was going to the bus station and walked us all the way back to the train station and showed us where the ticket machines were located.

This act of kindness really restored our faith in the fact that there is goodness to be found in so many people. This will be a moment that will stand out when we look back on our travels.

Beautiful photos! Sounds like you both had a very special and memorable vacation. Keep making those memories, it sweetens life so much. There are a lot of good hearted folks in this world, we just rarely hear about them, thanks for sharing your experience. Welcome back!

Nice photos!

Here a few pics from our 2 days in Barcelona. Antoni Gaudi was a great architect who designed buildings in the early 1900s. His designs were "fluid" to mimic the shape of water and they are still outstanding. We are always amazed when we tour his home and the Sagrada Familia, which has been under construction for years but is expected to be completed in 2026. It is an actual church that is currently used for worship.

So amazing! Until now I've only seen the outside of the Gaudi building. Thanks for your posts, @seadoug! 🌹
