Remember the coffee klatsch?

Way back in the way back, women used to get together in the neighborhood in mid-morning or mid-afternoon while their kids were in school to take a break from the washing, ironing, cooking, cleaning, scrubbing, polishing to a high sheen. Did that tradition die out because more women went to work? Because now they're called "play dates" and the littles are taken along? Gosh, before my own mother worked, at least one morning or afternoon a week was "coffee with the neighbors," and it was a planned thing, usually on Wedneday because Monday was laundry and Tuesday was ironing. Nobody got dressed up, there was coffee or tea and coffee cake or maybe cookies or cake leftover from the previous night's dessert. Sometimes it was spontaneous when neighbors were outside hanging laundry at the same time..."c'mon in and have coffee." Does the "lady of the house" still do this?

Not since I was a young mother in a neighborhood.

It's true, often when I came home from school I never knew which neighbor or neighbors would be in the kitchen with my mother, aromas of coffee and Kent cigarettes....

Or no one there and the phone would ring and it was mom telling me who's house she was in and she'd be home in a few minutes.

We lived at the end of a dead-end street so if it was getting later in the afternoon(we didn't get out of school until 4) , she'd keep an eye out for us and stick her head out the door to tell us she'd be home in a few minutes. Next thing we knew, she'd be flying through the door exclaiming about how late it was and she had to get a wiggle on and start supper! Sometimes in the morning she'd have taken eggs to one of the neighbors (we had chickens and ducks) and "just stopped in to talk for a few minutes" before remembering that we'd be home for lunch. Lunch on those days usually turned out to be PB&J.

As in they all meet at Starbucks by design or they each go to Starbucks and run into each other? One thing for sure...they don't have to worry about picking up the kids' toys or straightening up the house beforehand.

Hm. I thought the seniors all got together at McD's Maybe the younger folks are all at work in the morning? I'm in my garden mornings so miss everything. Drat. I really need to get out and about. I might be missing something!

So, some morning we all need to go to our local McDonald's at the same time, whip out our tablets and have a go at this morning coffee thing together

Ok, but we'll have to make it quick!

I always feel so out of the loop, because I do not drink coffee
You don't have to actually drink coffee. Heck, it can be a glass of water, a cup of tea, some lemonade. Meeting for "coffee" is one of those generic things...sort of like Kleenex? Any tissue is called Kleenex. Meeting for coffee is meeting for anything non-alcoholic to drink. K? You can still meet us for coffee:)
