Remember all of them. A lot of memories especially the black artists. My dad did not like us listening to them so we would sneak around and buy the 45's and play when he was at work. It helped that my mother loved Brook Benton's music so she did not mind it. I still have "the oldies but goodies" collection of cds and listen to them almost daily!

Actually I wasn't born until well into the 50's....so although I came to know most of those songs and artists much later when I was in my teens and the songs were long gone from the music charts...I did get to love them all..I particularly loved the Platters, their voices were just beautiful harmonies... Music is my passion, and I like to think I know most of popular singers and songs that were popular in years before I was born so I was surprised when I watched this to have to admit there were quite a few artists I never knew...

The Montones
laverne Baker
Robin Luke
The Crests
Clarence henry
Chuck Willis
Wilbert Harrison
The Danleers
Phil Philips

It also could be a British/ US thing as well... maybe their songs just weren't hits over here..

What did you guys over there do for music before the Beatles?? :playful:

Almost everyone of those songs brought back a memory. I went to School dances from when I was 13 yrs old. What memory of hearing them reminded me of when I was 12 yrs old and a boy I knew was close friends with Frankie Avolon ,Bobby Rydell and Fabian , who all lived in my neighborhood.. One day he took me to meet them. I got so excited and enjoyed hearing them sing together. Bobby Rydell went on to marry a girl that was in high school with me. We didn't have any classes together because she was 2 yrs older then I was. I loved listening to those songs.

Certainly pre-1960 we had music from the USA...Elvis...Johnny tilitson, Jim reeves, The Everly brothers, Perry Como, Roy Orbison, Neil Sedaka etc... but we also had our own POp stars,

Cliff Richard
Shirley Bassey
Adam faith
Gerry & the Pacemakers
The Searchers
The tremeloes
Marty Wilde
Anthony Newley
Billy Fury

...to name just a few...

The Beatles came along around the early 60's and around the same time as the Who, The Kinks, The rolling Stones, the Move, Black Sabbath and so many, many more.... :D

Remember when all cars had bench seats so your honey could snuggle up to ya? Necker knobs so you could drive with only one arm for the steering and one for her?

I remember all of these songs and still know most of the words to them. From the time I was in 8th grade through my Senior year, if you wanted to find me on a Friday or Saturday night, just check out the record hops. I was at one of them.

Holly---Cliff Richard was also popular here in the U.S. When he held his show in Wembley, I think it was in 1989 called "The Event," he had as one of his stars, The Kalin Twins, which had a hit in the late '50's named, "When." The two brothers were Harold (Hal) and Herbert (Herbie). In 2005, Hal died from injuries that he had sustained due to a car crash. Eleven months later, his brother, Herbie fell over dead of a heart attack. I only wrote this because I really enjoyed their song. Here it is from Wembley Stadium:
