A Quiet American
One of the most liberating moments of my life was when I realized I didn't *have* to cook a turkey on the traditional days (the deboning afterwards is the worst part, for me)... Taking whatever the bedrock of the holiday is-- being thankful or a religious reason-- I've learned to build my own celebration, tailored to what the circumstances are that year... One year we had fajitas and margaritas for thanksgiving! 
As grown children begin having their own plans, I adjust. I think this year will be a Dew-Drop-Inn Thanksgiving; come when you want, leave when you want.
Christmas gets more scaled back each year as far as decorations... My manger scene is now the focal point of the living room... I have a small tree in my room with cherished ornaments on it... The grandgirls will not be here, so I won't put up my "Santa's village" I'd rather focus celebrating on worship and reflection of God's goodness.

after my divorce from DD's dad when she was about 10 or 11... every Christmas we'd take turns having her.. and on the christmases she spent here at home with me..i always said she could choose whatever she liked for her Christmas day lunch.. and if that meant Choc ice and chips ( fries) ..then should could have it... and that's what we did every year... we had whatever she chose to have..
