Remote Alaskans evacuated by air from floodt

It's been going on for a week or more. The story I read about was in Shishmaref, AK. But as far as Eskimo villages along the Bering sea, there are lots of them built right on the shore with elevations of two feet above sea level. They had been peacefully lying there since forever, when the big ordeal was extreme cold, rather than today's more violent storms. Many are smaller and not being reported, because they are too hard to get to.

This happened several days back, but it seems nobody’s talking about it and it should at least be acknowledged.

Thanks. I wish they would include a map.

Thankyou for this🤠🤠

I've been to a village near Shishmaref, which was much smaller; Brevig Mission. I've been wondering how that village has fared. Not a word. I think Shishmaref has an airport that reporters could fly into. Possibly scheduled flights. Not sure. Brevig Mission has an airport, but it's for bush planes. You have to do a fly over before you land, so little kids can run out on the landing strip and remove their tricycles and other things they left lying around.

Imogene, I kept meaning to post about it, but wasn't on the forum for a couple of days. I was surprised that no one here posted about it when the news first broke. Those poor people...entire communities obliterated! The photo of them packed in the aircraft like sardines is quite a sight! Thank God they were able to be evacuated in that manner. It's sad about the one death and the missing, but thankfully there were not more.
