Rename Austin Texas ??

Probably because he was a General of the Confederate States Army.

Stand Watie was a Confederate Brig. General.

I bet no one here has ever heard of him. He was also a Cherokee Indian Chief.

The inscription reads:

" In Honor of General Stand Watie - - only full blood Indian
Brigadier General in the Confederate Army.

This brave Cherokee with his heroic regiment rendered inestimable
services to the Confederate Cause of Indian Territory.

Born in Georgia, December 12, 1806, died in Cherokee Nation, September 9, 1871

A tribute to his memory by the Oklahoma Division, United Daughters of the Confederacy."

"Lest We Forget"

The Confederate Cherokees in Oklahoma also had their own chapter of the mysterious...
"Knights of the Golden Circle."

I see no reason for a name change in that case. But it should be up to the citizens of Austin, Texas. I WAS glad when a statue of Robert E. Lee was removed in the city nearest me. I was shocked it existed. I lived in the city for many years and somehow never knew that.
