Republicans cave on ACA

The Senate's top five Republican leaders have cosponsored legislation to extend until 2017 the Obamacare insurance subsidies that may be struck down by the Supreme Court this summer.

They're the ones who pushed the lawsuit in the first place! :crying: The mind boggles! Why do I expect consistency from them? Silly me. At least this may work in our favor . . .

Perhaps... who knows. I don't expect the SCOTUS to overturn the ACA... but who would have thought they would rule like they did on Citizens United..

When I use the expression Republicans cave, it shows they're not looking forward to the fall out if SCOTUS rules the subsides illegal. Unfortunately the legislation the Repubs are introducing includes some stuff that's totally unacceptable to the Administration. So what else is new?

I tend to agree with QS that SCOTUS will not find the subsides illegal, but as June approaches I think King v. Burwell will really dominate the news cycle and the preponderance of stories will be about what will happen when 8 million people lose their insurance. I think the Repubs will really want to see some non train wreck solution even though they've opposed ACA every step of the way. I don't think the Administraton/Dems will have to compromise one inch on any corrective legislation....just a clean extension of the subsides.

Well it certainly isn't going to be very good PR.. Throwing 8million people off health insurance with nothing to replace it. Not going to make them very popular for sure... Just a really good example of "be careful what you wish for".

From what I understand SCOTUS bent their usual presidents in accepting this case, and they only would do that if they were confident they had the votes to uphold the plaintiff's position. It appears that there was a serious miscalculation in doing this. It's such an unbelievably absurd case with what everyone agrees is a simple case of careless wording resulting in a colossal disruption in the the insurance industry, the healthcare industry and millions of people who can no longer afford insurance. Roberts is going to look pretty stupid no matter how he votes.
