Retail Stores/companies To Stop On-Call Scheduling

Several retail stores still using on call scheduling agreed to stop the practice. Stores included Disney stores.

It's one thing to be paid to be on call but without pay an employee's time is their time. I had jobs where you got 3-4 hours pay just for being available and had other jobs that had no problems sending you home after 2 hours to save money.
 

I see nothing wrong with a retailer calling someone in to work in an emergency but on call is a different situation. A refusal should not be held against them if it is a scheduled day off. Retail is demanding work--on your feet all day and sometimes having to take guff from customers. My son worked retail while in school (many years ago) raises were rare--promotions in name only, a lot expected for meager pay. I hope this little bit of relief is helpful to these many workers.
