Hello there, my name is bob, I just thought I would introduce myself, I have just joined the forum today.
I retired to North Wales UK in 2006 and live in a house overlooking the welsh mountains. My wife and I enjoy walks through the woods and mountains with our cocker spaniel ( willy ). It is 11.00am in the UK. The temperature outside is 2 degrees celcius and its very windy. Hope the weather is better where you are. I am 60 years old and retired from refrigeration engineering at 50 due to ill health. I look forward to reading your comments on a wide range of subjects and hope I can make a useful contribution.

Hi Bob...welcome to the forum..it's sunny and almost 10 deg here in the rural shires outside London.

There's a mix of folks here from all over..mainly our American friends of course, but quite a few from the UK and Canada and OZ as well.

Not all of us are old enough or sick enough to require..sorry to hear your health isn't great..but I'm sure you'll enjoy this really friendly forum

Thankyou for your kind words Hollydolly, the problem is I am diabetic, diagnosed in 1999, when you are diagnosed they don't tell you what can happen, one of the problems is gastrointestinal diabetic neuropathy. It is a bit like IBS but the big thing is that it messes up your sleep, I never sleep more than 3 hours at a time. I hope your health is well, I used in work in London repair refrigeration equipment in sainsbury's, tesco and waitrose. Good money but terrible hours. I hope we speak again, I don't know how to speak to members yet but I am sure I will find my way around. Thankyou again for being so nice to me
Very best wishes
bobby

Bobby you're very welcome. I don't live in the city I live in Herts about 20 minutes outside North London.

To speak to everyone just click on any threads you're interested in and just post your thoughts on the subject, everyone is very welcoming.

Welcome to the forum, bobby! :) You've chosen a lovely place in which to retire. I lived in North Wales many many years ago for about 4 years.

Welcome to the forum, Bobby. After a career in IT, I retired early in my mid-50s and moved from near Portsmouth to N.E. Aberdeenshire. Not so hilly in this part, but lovely beaches. My wife and I enjoy walking too and often take our motorhome to the Cairngorms or Torridon for a spot of hill walking.

Cold today, but clear and bright with a light wind.

Welcome Bob! I visited Wales years ago. Gorgeous. My home is in Scotland but am originally from the US. Currently enjoying 30c on an island in Thailand.

When I was a refrigeration service engineer Tesco Hertford was one of my stores. I always dreaded a call at night from them because it was quite a drive to get there from Milton Keynes.

Welcome to the forum Bobby, nice to have you with us!

I would love to visit where you are now I have heard some great stories from our nephew who worked there as a diver. I understand that Thailand is made up of many islands

I did the refrigeration system in wrexham brewery many years ago. I bet it has all been ripped out now and a much more up to date system re-installed

We live in blaenau ffestiniog which is very welsh, our solicitor told us to go to Llandudno if my wife barbara wanted to buy shoes or a nice dress. Not much choice in Porthmadog.

Hello jim, how are you, I have never been to the USA but I had an uncle who lived over there and two great uncles who lived in Canada. They used to say the USA is the land of opportunity, they all had really big houses and retired early so it must be true.

Bobby, the part of Aberdeenshire where I live is very 'soft and gentle'. It's mostly fishing and Agriculture (growing barley for the whisky industry). However, it's not too far to the mountains.

A quick picture taken last August of the harvest in the fields near my house.

Looks absolutely beautiful, nothing like where we live. Last week we saw a program on the Scotish highland crofts, I know the weather is a bit wild up there in the winter but it seems a very attractive life style to us.

This was taken outside my house a few years ago. Generally it's not that bad though we do have the occasional power cut. A bigger problem is wind, but I live in an old stone built house with very thick wals. It has stood for nearly 200 years, so it will stand for a few more. This pic was taken looking in the opposite direction to the harvest pic.

We are on one of the islands and there are many, many beautiful ones!

I live in the southwest highlands on a sea loch. It does get wild in winter!

Pictures of blaenau ffestiniog in the snow

I have tried twice to upload pictures of blaenau ffestiniog to you, I wanted you to see what 2010/2011 winter was like here but some how when I load the pictures the send button goes. I know that you load pictures with the little square tree in a picture icon number six counting back from the right. Could you tell what I might be doing wrong
Sorry to be a pain

I find that if the pic file is too large it won't load here so I resize it first.
