Retirement stinks

Anybody else bored and unhappy being retired? I didn't actually stop working until I was 73 because my job was eliminated last summer. But I have nothing to do and I'm alone. Whine!
 

If you are OK financially Fran you should not be bored and unhappy. If your finances Suck, I can understand.

So how are you doing financially?
 
I'm very happy with being retired, not too many things going on in my everyday life, but I'm never bored. I recommend you get out and about and do some things that you like to do. Maybe you can meet a friend that you can go and have dinner with or take in a movie. If you like animals, you can adopt a dog and meet people that way, you get out and get your exercise in too. Hollydolly's idea of volunteering is always a nice thing to do if you're interested. By the way, welcome! :)

Welcome to the forum. retirement is what one makes of it. If you have a senior center in your city or town, go there, mix and find others who will share their interests with you. You may well find the best friend you never had.

Aww, you'll get used to it, there's always an adjustment period. And now is a good time to learn new things, university courses are free to seniors here in Canada, probably where you are too; there are seniors social groups, hobbies.... the world is at your feet... speaking of which,... how about some dance lessons? So much to see, so much to do. How about a cruise, cooking classes? Pottery? OK, I'll stop.
 
Hello Franepat, and welcome to the forum. I retired at age 63. It took me a year to get into the groove but I started volunteering with the friends of the Library. They had a large annual sell once a year. I set them up to sell books on line and it was a successful venture bringing in thirty, thirty-ifive thousand a year. I left four years ago but it's still a going venture. I hear from them once in a while. I hold the record for selling a single book for the highest price, $900.00. Retirement has been the best part of my life.
 
I retired a little early(age 59) but had to attend to a couple health matters. I was not bored, but needed to get back the feeling of productivity, and needed to feel "in control" of my life, rather than dependent on whatever ....

So, I started on a decent paying full time job this past Monday, and am happy as a clam. :)

I know! It's absolute crap - i was dreading it when I was still working and it has turned out to be 100 times worse than my wildest nightmare - and boy, this is some nightmare...AAARRRRGGGHHH!!
 
well I don't know what you do already but like was said, find a volunteer job or a real job, I work part time at the local hardware, (little money but buy coffee and comic books) check out the local library get into a good book once a week, or more, do some writing, do you draw play guitar or something.......make the best years the best years.....

All great suggestions, Ronald. I'm sorry but I find it difficult to relate to being bored in retirement. I find the opposite is true and I love it!
