This is one of the Hollywood celebrity deaths that I knew probably wasn't far off, but that I was kind of dreading anyway.

I never watched The Rockford Files in the 70's when it was in production because, being in my teens & early 20's, I rarely watched TV period. But in the mid 90's, about 15 years or so after the series had ended, I began watching the reruns every evening after coming home from work & became an instant fan. I was amazed at how the show didn't seem dated at all. Aside from the cars & some of the clothing styles, any one of those shows could've been made a week earlier.

I still watch the reruns to this day.

But now, it won't be the same.

RIP, "Jimmy", as his buddy "Angel Martin" & his dad "Rocky" used to call him.

If you have free time during the day, check your TV listings for The Rockford Files & give it look see if you've never seen it.

He plays the same type of character as he did in Maverick, but is a modern day (70's) Los Angeles private detective who lives in a trailer parked next to the beach in a restaurant parking lot in Malibu.

Great show.

I remember the Rockford Files. He made that show his own. I think that was the first non cliche cops and robbers private detective show. Everyone in that show was their own character. I think his buddy and informant Angel was it was a bit closer to a real ex con. Trailer at the beach was considered poor back then. Now that's a millionaire's territory.

I've heard or seen his bio for years now but I didn't realize he was married to the same women for over 50 years and he earned two, not one Purple Hearts from the Korean War.

James Garner should be the standard for the Hollywood Actor life and not media gossip appearances.

He aged well.
