Robbie Robertson of the Band, died, age 80

Took this very hard. Met him when I had place in Woodstock. One winter he & Michael Lang dug my friend's car out of a snow rut. Car still wouldn't move. She had left emergency brake on. They laughed at her. Were friends of my neighbor. Never spoke to them again but saw them visiting. Neighbor was record producer. Had a little son, Dylan. First Dylan I ever knew. Now there are millions of Dylans all over the place.

Only one member of The Band is still living. And still living in the area of Woodstock, New York. Anybody know his name ? I do.

Robbie Roberson claimed in middle age that he has "Mohawk ancestry ". I call BS on that because in his own words, in his biography, he stated that "My Father was a Jewish mobster from Montreal ". His birth in 1943 in Toronto was to a 17 year old single mother. For a guy who claims to be "part Native " he sure could grow a great beard. He also went out of his way to claim that he wrote all the songs for the Band, despite the credits on the albums to other band members.

Now I see that his family is asking people to make donations to the Six Nations Cultural Center. The Six Nations Reserve is also the home to Grand River Enterprises, the largest Native owned corporation in Canada with over 10,000 employees around the globe. The President of that company recently died. He was Ken Hill, and his personal net worth, last year was 40 billion dollars. The Six Nations Reserve doesn't need any one's money for their cultural center. JimB.

I give up. Who? When I lived there the whole Band was hanging out in town; some lived in Rhinebeck across little bridge. So pretty up there. Never saw Dylan. Remember seeing Albert Grossman a lot. I think that's his name. Just popped in my head.

Since you almost never answer me, Jim in T I took the liberty of finding out for myself:

Garth Hudson made his most recent public appearance on April 16 2023, performing in Kingston, New York, in the Flower Hill House Concert No. 6, where he played Duke Ellington‘s “Sophisticated Lady”. Wikpedia

Yes you have it correct. All the rest are now dead. Of the 5 Band members, 4 were born in Canada. The exception was Levon Helm, who came to Canada in 1958 with Ronny Hawkins, Both of them were from Arkansas. Hawkins was the smart one, he never left Canada, declaring it "the promised land " He died early this year. JimB.
