Robots on this forum.

I'm new here....but I clicked on Members and then on Current visitors and I see there are a number of robots on the forum. Anyway to block these? Some are Bing and some Google...all are annoying and a bit creepy.

If you click the arrow to the right of Members, on the top horizontal line, and then scroll down it shows Members Names/Guests/Bots.

I always thought bots like Google are used so that the forum is searchable in search engines... this bringing in new members if they search for something we're discussing. But... I'm sooo NOT net savvy and I could be completely wrong.

I would seriously suggest communicating with Matrix before trying to block any bots.

Yikes! That's right. I clicked on one, which was identified as a "Well known member." And people were responding to them. How many times have I done that, I wonder?

They are software robots designed to crawl the web & catalog their content. They are kind of a necessary evil because that's how the search engines do thier thing. Some websites try to block them others not. When hosting websites such as this one there maybe agreements that you will not block certain robots.

On the dark side some actually collect everything we say creating a database to build profiles about people.

Well,I just discovered a bit of the forum I had never seen before.....in which I discovered who was online and what they were viewing .
Not sure what robots being online means.
But I suspect it is not peculiar to this forum.

...they're just search engine web crawlers, they don't care about you, they're just mapping the internet.

No idea what you are talking about. I click on members at the top and that is all I see. Nothing about robots and nothing on 'staff members' either. Doesn't matter to me.

gerroutta here.. you never knew you could see whose online ..after 6 years ..? Bots are attached to every forum...
