Gamblers .. particularly small time gamblers who whittle their money away on loss leaders like scratch cards and lottery tickets.

In the UK,lottery tickets are sold at the customer services desk in most supermarkets.. where they also sell cigarettes.

There's nothing more annoying than going to the customer service desk with a query, than having to stand for ages in the Gamblers anonymous queue while they wait to buy scratch cards et al... and then when you finally get near the front the person getting served can't make their minds up what they want. Umm,,,I'll have one orange & blue striped, , and then I'll have one Chase the dragon, and errm.. a yellow You're a loser, and then a You're an Addict green one..

...then we're not done yet.. because they then have to cash in their lottery ticket for last week which has garnered them a whopping £10, which they then spend again only double.. getting more tickets... and a couple more scratch cards

.. by which time everyone standing in the Queue behind are ready to commit murder..

Into Room 101, to Supermarkets in the UK for now having separate Gamblers anonymous desks...

In Spain you cannot buy cigarettes, lottery tickets or scratch cards in Supermarkets at all

I’ve stood in that same line as @hollydolly. After listening to two women discussing every scratch ticket they were buying, I switched to self-checkout. That’s all I use there now.

Sadly there is no self checkout here at customer service where they sell Lottery tickets..
