I don't think we'll find any middle ground here. You view, from my perspective, is shallow and simplistic in a complex world. I value human life, and I'm not swayed by ranting politicians who mostly peddle hate. It doesn't have to be this way, people are choosing to make it this way.

Only US citizens can vote. If I were still there on my work visa, I would NOT be able to vote. I'd have to become a citizen. That takes ten years. True, but his step-by-step isn't "playing out to the letter these days". He wasn't very good at playing Nostradamus. There is no move to make the US a socialist country. That's just a trigger word used by some to put fear into people, because people that are scared are more easily controlled. Obama, for example, is no longer President, and when he was, the US didn't turn Socialist.

As I say, we're not going to find a middle ground here, and I think it's time to drop the back and forth. The OP simply stated that fans and Service Members for the Army-Navy game who booked or reserved rooms at a hotel are being blocked from admission to those rooms,
as it has been decided to give them to migrants.

While in my opinion, this is not only unfair, but should be illegal, the entire thread has migrated into a politically charged debate as to whether it is just or not. I believe simply responding, as simply as I did, is all required of this thread.

I think you'll find some of the heat will dissipate since myself and Sippican agreed to disagree. I do find determining where the line is a little difficult, since the forum title is Current News and Hot Topics, but I do understand that once it comes down to parties, then it can quickly deteriorate. For my part, I apologize to anyone offended, please carry on if you feel a need, I won't be returning to the previous discussion.

What a crying shame. Veterans gave their best but get no appreciation. New arrivals who haven't done anything for the country yet get all "goodies." Seems to me that new immigrants are politically correct but the veterans just are not. Something sure is screwed up in the thinking of some people in power.

Do you think that's an over-exaggeration? At worst, they'd miss a single football game. Even in the lives of vets that's got to be small change. And what are the "goodies", it's not as though the vets tickets were cancelled and given to immigrants. Given circumstances had allegedly changed, couldn't the vets just have booked elsewhere?

Secondly, and more egregiously, turns out this story was simply a fabrication stemming from right-wing Social Media. It's a well worn trick - throw out a "story" using trigger words (in this case vets and immigrants), and get people hating immigrants, which then get associated with the left, and it doesn't matter if it's true or false. People have seen it on Social Media, so it has to be true. Now, no matter what, a percentage will have "vets were put second to immigrants" on their mind, no matter the truth.

In an odd saga involving apparently altered receipts and paid unhoused actors, the chief executive of Yerik Israel Toney Foundation (YIT) – a non-profit organization focused on housing military veterans – has been accused of fabricating stories about unhoused veterans getting kicked out of hotels to make space for migrants.

Last week, the conservative tabloid New York Post ran a viral story about nearly two dozen unhoused veterans who were purportedly removed from hotels in upstate New York because of a surge of migrants in search of asylum in the state.

The YIT foundation leader, Sharon Toney-Finch, spoke on the record to the outlet, whose story caught the attention of the local Republican state assembly member Brian Maher.

Maher told the New York Post that officials’ priority should be serving Americans over “asylum seekers”.

However, an investigation by local news outlets Mid Hudson News and the Times Union found several holes in Toney-Finch’s claims.

Mid Hudson News reported that Maher provided a copy of a credit-card receipt that purportedly showed a payment of more than $37,000 for rooms at the Crossroads Hotel in Newburgh for the unhoused veterans who were then allegedly displaced.

The Times Union also published an image of the receipt, along with a copy of what appears to be Toney-Finch’s credit card. The pictures were allegedly sent to Maher to confirm that YIT had booked and paid for hotel rooms for the unhoused veterans.

However, according to a graphics expert who examined the document, the receipt appeared to have been “altered with smudges behind the darker type and [had] different fonts”, Mid Hudson News reports.

Mid Hudson News also contacted the hotel manager who said: “I checked the dollar on the net on the credit card … and the screen shows no transactions. The hotel has no record of this transaction.”

He added that not only were there no veterans at the hotel, none were kicked out and no other guests were forced out of their rooms. The manager also told Mid Hudson News that although the hotel does have several asylum seekers there, it was not booked to capacity, and rooms were still available.

So essentially, the story was not true, and it was never true. The New York Post, a supposed piece of mainstream media, either did zero research, or they did and decided they score political points anyway. It's shameful, imo.
