Rotten Wood Fell Out of Tree

Before I went to church, I picked up a piece of a rotten branch that had fallen out of the Norway maple in the front yard. That wood was so rotten, it felt like styrofoam. When it dropped, some of it disintegrated and the pieces looked like pulled pork.

Is the rest of the tree ok? If so, it was probably up there just rotting away for ages.

Maybe the tree is mimicking your home.

I hired a tree service a year ago in September to get up in the trees on my property and weed out all the dead wood. All they did was snip the tips of branches. The supervisor never said a word when I explained what I wanted. At the end he presented me with a $1200 bill. I told him he didn't do what I wanted. He said what I asked for was a totally different service than they offered. Why don't these people say that up front when I am explaining the work involved ?

Your city may have someone on staff who can inspect the health of your tree. They can bore a sample to see if the trunk is rotting. If they don’t have someone, they should be able to tell you someone that can.

That $1200 was nasty.
