Royal Titles in the UK

There is much interest in the Royal Family because of
the upcoming wedding of the popular Prince Harry &
his fiancé Meghan Markle.

She won't be made a Princess unless the Queen says
that she is one, but she will be able to use Harry's
title, Princess Henry, although it expected that the
Queen will make them Duke & Duchess of Sussex, but
that is pure speculation at this time.

Australian Article Explaining it all, better than I can.

Mike.

I rather fancied Clarence myself, Mike. It's a while since had one, and we've got a York.

I must admit that Sussex never occurred to me.

Some of the empty Dukedoms are cursed and carry bad
history, that is why they are thinking it will be Sussex,
it must be a clean name.

The Queen has given them the Dukedom of Sussex,
they will leave the church as the Duke & Duchess
of Sussex, also as Prince & Princess Henry (of Sussex),
I am not really sure about the end of the Prince title.

Not sure of the relevance, but I believe you use the term "ma'am" much more in the States than we do over here,

Laurie, I remember seeing an English gentleman on TV giving a class to a group of people about to meet the Queen for the first time; rules, curtsying, proper etiquette, etc. He said you must never ever address her as "mum" but as "ma'am, rhymes with ham"!

No relevance true, I just thought of it and it struck me as funny. Feelin' goofy I guess.

Yeah, there's always some "expert" telling you how to behave in any given set of circumstances!

To those born here it becomes instinctive.

I was shocked and saddened yesterday to see how few people, particularly invited guests, I don't mean the public who were probably too excited, failed to give the new duchess the courtesy of of a bow or curtsy as she left the church. Anyone below Kate in the order of precedence should have done so, and it is the traditional way of acknowledging a royal bride's new status.

One didn't expect it of Oprah, of course, but the Beckhams should certainly have done so.

Oprah is "below Kate in order of precedence" so why is Oprah not expected to bow but the Beckhams are?

Oprah never even smiled once at the Royal wedding. In fact, she had a sour look on her face. She appeared to be nothing but a "Royal Pain in the Butt".

Who cares what Oprah did or didn't do ?
Exactly, Falcon. Not I.

Oprah is an American. Americans don't bow to foreign royalty. The Beckhams are British, thus subject to British customary behavior. I think it's pretty voluntary these days, as I believe nobody's in danger of being beheaded if they don't bow/curtsey to a member of The Family.

Exactly so. Oprah is her own woman and does her own thing. No-one here cares if she curtsys or not. Doria didn't as far as I saw, but her daughter certainly did.

However, for British citizens, particularly Royal guests in a Royal chapel at a Royal wedding it is a common courtesy, like saying "Thank you for the invitation."

Probably not widely reported in the US, but Megan's bouquet was sent to Westminster Abbey to be laid on the tomb of our Unknown Soldier which was a nice touch.

Had she been married there she would have laid it there herself, on her way out, a tradition started by the Queen's mother, Elizabeth of Glamis, at her wedding in 1923. She lost a brother in the Great War.

I did find a photo of Oprah smiling and waving early in the am as she was entering the church. Apparently, when she got in there, she went to her seating area (same area as the mother of the bride in the choir section) but she "didn't know which seat was hers and looked lost" according to the media...never to smile again.

The media said she was originally dressed in white and was pressured to change so as not to upstage the bride. Maybe that's what upset her. Again, the media, so whether that's true or not I don't know. Maybe it was those Spanx I heard her once say she wore. Talk about pressure :D

I do believe that it is a rule that when meeting royalty one should not speak till spoken to.
Having never met or likely to meet a member of the royal family I don,t know if this is so. I do know however though is that the british tax payer has to keep this family in the luxury they are living in and the British tax payer are going to have to pay over eighty million pound to pay for repairs to Buck House

Piece of damned nonsense. If I passed them in the street (I used to work in St Andrews) I would raise my hat and say "Good Morning" like I would to anyone else I recognised, even Oprah!
