Rude Customer Service

I'm usually pretty easygoing as a customer. I've been a retail droog long enough to know how punishing retail can be. So for me to condemn a store on Yelp it has to be pretty bad. I went to the computer fix it store around the corner today. They've been there a long time but I usually rely on Best Buy's Geek Squad. I figured I'll stay local and save myself the trip to the Apple Store. The woman behind the counter wordlessly buzzed me in.

She was gabbing on the phone and didn't even pause her conversation to say " I'll be right with you". Even if you are on an important call you ALWAYS acknowledge the customer. Then you either
A Settle your phone conversation and take care of the customer.
B Tell the person on the phone you will call them back shortly.
C Put the phone person on hold and take care of the customer in front of you.

This woman did none of the above. It wasn't even a business call. I figured she would close the conversation shortly and I always have a book in my bag. After fifteen minutes she was still in an animated conversation with her friend. I don't have work today myself but you are totally wasting my time. She lost herself a customer today plus got a scalding Yelp review. I finally walked out:mad::mad::mad:

I have dealt with the Geek Squad before and often time there is a wait if they are serving another customer. However, I would not have been as patient as you if after a few minutes (no more than five) I was not acknowledged and the person was on a personal call, I'd be pretty annoyed! They don't care about their job and how poor service affects the company but it seems typical today. Retail is a tough business and often underpaid however, I would think Geek Squad would be be compensated for their skill. Either way, no excuse!

Just to clarify...the Geek Squad folks are always cordial no matter how dumb my questions. Because like you say they're being watched and graded on interactions. The rude woman worked for a private electronic store. Apparently with no supervisor to click the phone on her she felt no obligation to stop talking. Ridiculous any way you look at it.

Yeah sometimes there is just a really bad apple employee. I went into a gas station to buy a diet coke & I was standing at the counter and the woman was talking on the phone and then she hung up and threw her phone on the floor as hard as she could and yelled 'MFing boss! I hate him!" I just took my coke and put it back and walked out.
