I didn’t want to derail the thread on “Oregon becomes the first state to decriminalize hard drugs like cocaine and heroin” – we’re having too much fun there.

What criteria should be used when deciding if something should be unlawful?

We sure are a mixed bag of marbles.

The #1 reason for making some action "unlawful" is if it goes against our innate sense of right and wrong.
The #2 reason is when a majority deems that such a thing is "unlawful".
You will never get 100%, who agree on anything. We are weird critters, who have similar bodies, but are "wired" differently.
