Russian Oligarch Suleiman Kerimovs $300,000,000 Dollar Seized Yacht Arrives In San Diego

Do we {the US] really have the right to seize that mans yacht ? Did he sommehow break our laws ?

It really makes no sence ....... his country invades another ........... yet we take his toy ?

I wouldn't be surprised if most of these luxury items are heavily mortgaged using other people's money.

I don't know but ... is that any different than any other mortgage ?

If that is the case ? Shouldn't the money [after it's sold] go back to the mortgage company ? Why should US law enforcement reap the benefit ?

Something sounds fishy here to me.

I've wondered about this too. I think we will give it back to him, once his country behaves. I dunno. Is it legal to take away your child's PlayStation when he disobeys? But while we have it, it should be docked so people could pay $20 to get on it and look around. They could sell the ships spoons and things as souvenirs.

I get your point but ........ He didn't invade Ukraine, Putin did ... Isn't this guilt by association ?

We didn't seize anything when Communist China/North Vietnam invaded South Vietnam , or when North Korea/Communist China invaded South Korea , or when Hitler invaded most of Europe , etc.

"Is it legal to take away your child's PlayStation when he disobeys? " ......LOL !

Where do you think his money came from? It was stolen from the Russian people, facilitated by Putin.

OK, and just how do you know that ? That is a serious accusation ........ What if Gates or Musk bought a new yacht ...... would you accuse them of stealing it from us ?

And even if your accusation is correct , does that give us the right to seize it ?

Well there is a war involved, and in spite of any rules about conduct in war, who really pays attention? The victims maybe, but not most others. I suppose we seized the ship because we could. I think we are toying with Putin right now, just pushing him around a little bit. Dangerous to be sure, but giving him a free pass to do whatever he wants surely isn't in anyone else's best interest. China Maybe, because whatever he grabs as his own, from the looks of how his war is going, China can easily take it from Russia when they're worn out an finished. Russia could start a nuclear war, but from what I can tell their military machine is not up to the task of winning a war outside of some place like the Kingdom of Tonga.

OK, we're "toying" with Putin ........ not sure that is a good idea either...Why not just send in troops & armament form the western nations , and put a stop to his invasion of Ukraine ? And besides .... we are toying with putin ? This boat doesn't belong to Putin.

If you were a friend of Biden's ....... and he invaded Canada ..... does that give a third party law enforcement the right to take your boat ??

I don't know. Those guys live on a whole other plane of existence than I do. I'd probably suffer more than they do if someone took away my computer.

Well I certainly agree that folks at that level live a life I cain't even imagine ...

And honestly , I really don't think I'd trade with them.

Probably purchased outright using other peoples money or heavily mortgaged using other peoples money then declaring bankruptcy.

In case you didn't know, Vladimir Putin is a Russian oligarch. Also, at the end of the article there is a brief explanation of the 2022 seizures.
Early in the war, seizing and freezing the assets of Russian oligarchs was done as a way to weaken Putin, since they are allies to, beneficiaries of, and contributors to Putin. Oligarchs are powerful and important people to Russia's leadership, just as corporations hold power over our leaders. They can apply more pressure than Biden calling Putin on the telephone.

We didn't just sit on our hands....killing millions of them counts for something....

You're right , we didn't .... we amassed a military and intervened.

We did not however seize anything from the advancing leaders friends.

What happend to the rules of war ?

There are questions I have, although frankly, I don't care if we have a right to that guy's yacht or not. If we don't, that will be settled later. But for now, questions have been raised here that are reasonable. Finance is often complicated, and the yacht thing my have something to do with freezing assets. Does this guy have debts to American banks, or someone else? We don't know this, but there may be answers out there. The media doesn't often answer such relevant questions as they get caught up in the excitement of story. But taking that guy's yacht is definitely interesting to watch, although I don't have much deep emotional involvement in it. I'm just kind of surprised.

It may have something to do with the fact that Oligarchs have been trying to hide or shelter their yachts in distant places. I wonder why they don't just keep them in Russia, and charge the US with theft? They must know their wealth is in danger, and are scrambling, much like the people of Ukraine, who are also scrambling as they are being bombed into poverty. Things happen in war. War is not about playing fair. It never was.
