Rut or happy routine?

Sorry, but being in a rut just means doing the same old thing over and over and becoming bored, or tired of with; it doesn't matter if it's a job or if you get up every morning, stay in bed till whatever chosen time you've picked, it's a rut if it starts to feel like a routine you find you feel trapped in even if self imposed. We can, often change that, if we so choose to, by pulling ourselves out of a rut.

On the days I feel I've sunk into a rut, I know it is, for the most part self imposed, even if that's only for a few days or longer.

I think of "rut" as something you'd like to get out of, whereas a routine is just something you do with some kind of regularity. My life is happy and quiet, so I don't consider myself in a rut. I find that I am more reclusive with age, which surprises me a bit.

I'm surprised that so many folks refer to their employment as being in a rut. Allowing for a handful of exceptions, the great majority of us who are not wealthy and have to provide for ourselves and our families, have no choice but to work steadily for most of our lifetime. To say that this is allowing ourselves to be "in a rut" does a dis-service to all of the responsible people who put that responsibility above their personal likes and dislikes.

I do feel sorry for the poor soul who spends his entire life tied to a stationary machine as an operator. That is truly a grind but I would assume that most advance themselves, over the years, and their daily routine changes with the advancement. Many of my self employed friends were tied tighter to their businesses than I ever was to my particular job. Some, while allowing short vacations for their employees, shied away from taking one themselves for fear that the business could not run without them.

But to the subject at hand - -No, I do not see responsible working people being in a rut. Their life outside of work or when retired is their own to do with as they see fit. If they drop into a rut or routine, it's their choice, or the choice of they and their wife, if married. As always - - -JMHO. :)
