The early stages of dementia are likely a sign of Alzheimer’s disease, she said in a statement.

“As this condition has progressed, I am no longer able to participate in public life,” O’Connor, 88, said. “Since many people have asked about my current status and activities, I want to be open about these changes, and while I am still able, share some personal thoughts.”

It's too bad, dementia/Alzheimer's is my worst fear over any physical disabilities in my old age. Good that she's able to share before it's too late to communicate. Lost my aunt to Alzheimer's. :(

It is indeed a cruel disease and often lasts a very long time. I wish her and her family comfort, peace, and joy in the moments of memory that she may continue to experience

Nasty damn disease, a friend lost a dad to it several years ago, and I have friend in the early stages now. Nothing can be done for her, I wish her family well. In my opinion it is they who actually suffer the most.

I always thought she was hot, in a cool Lauren Bacall sorta way

Not even sure what party she is, but she’d be invited to mine

We could reminisce new times

ask each other what our own names are

(gawd I'm a sick bass turd)

While I totally respect justice O'Conner...........you owe Lauren Bacall an apology & a drink...:)

I find this news incredible sad, wish her&her family the best.
Her late husband,John died in 2009 of this terrible disease,as did Pres. Reagan who appointed her as 1st female judge to the Supreme Court in '81
