Saudi Arabia commits to net zero emissions by 2060

I believe this is just the latest example of the whole net zero scam.
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-58955584

They may be rich enough to go with inefficient solar and wind themselves, but only by continuing to sell oil and gas... And they plan on "planting billions of trees". I've been to Saudi and know something of their environment, no way do they have the water to support "billions of trees" without energy intensive desalinization or the import of water from elsewhere in the world... Don't mean to be picking on Saudi in particular, everybody is jumping on this bandwagon.

Going to zero emissions or even close is just not possible, not without widespread economic collapse and starvation... So we get these scam claims that will never be achieved.

I don't agree with many of these folks conclusions but they make some good point on the scam side of things https://www.corporateaccountability.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/The-Big-Con_EN.pdf .

I am in favor of rational discussion of this issue, and global warming in general. But that ain't what we are getting...

All this "net zero" hype is just that...Hype!....IMO. I think we are already at the "tipping point", and nothing we do....short of totally banning all fossil fuels, immediately, is going to make any real difference. These "human induced" effects on the climate have been occurring for decades, and it would take even more decades to erase the effects. The Only thing people can do is assess the effects on their individual situations, and start planning accordingly.

Fresh water is going to be increasingly scarce in many locations. Rising oceans will pose increased hazards to those living in low lying coastal regions. Higher average temperatures will make living in/near arid desert regions more miserable. The list goes on and on....and to think that any "politicians" are going to find a solution is wishful thinking.

A prime example of climate control "nonsense" is the recent report of California banning the sale of gas powered lawnmowers starting in 2024. I suspect that more "pollutants" are released into the atmosphere in a matter of minutes....during their annual forest fires....than all the small gas engines would release in decades.

With all their oil I can't see them driving electric cars.

More credible would be wind generators powering desalinization plants to water those trees.

Camels could provide fertilizer.

40 years from now, eh! Life on earth may be gone by then! Who knows? I for sure wouldn't be around. According to National Geographic cheap oil/gas will be depleted by 2040. This fancy driving around with big 4X4 trucks, big motorhomes and big SUVs is going to be in serious trouble by 2040. That's only 19 years from now. Bad news if you are in your 20s or 30s. If you read the news Europe is in serious trouble regarding gas supplies for this winter. Prices are going up all over the place. Maybe this sounds like "doom and gloom" from me but hey, can you blame me. I have been reading 20 months of "doom and gloom" about this here pandemic so I guess it has sort of rubbed on me.

Good point, mine probably will be.

I doubt we will run out of oil and gas before something else comes along. Folks have been forecasting the end of oil, always wrong. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peak_oil we have proven pretty good at finding more, and extracting more from oil discoveries. No reason to believe that won't continue.

We have barely scratched the surface of the earths hydrocarbon deposits, only problem is we don't know where all of them are, or how to extract most of what we do know of. That's slowly changing and why we never seem to run out.

Not the most emphatic victory for the environmental lobby I must admit, but lets not get carried away with criticising others, as I couldn't be more certain of anything than the fact it is us lot in the West, who will carry the most responsibility if climate change goes beyond a tipping point from where it cant be slowed or reversed, (as I understand it?).
