Scallions

If you use scallions (green onions) in cooking, do you use just the white part, just the green part or the whole thing? Whenever I've seen Martha Stewart use them, she just uses the white part - seems wasteful to me.
 

I don't use them in cooking very often, but when I use them in salads I only use the green part.
 

My husband loves them raw with a bit of salt. He eats some of the green also. When I use them in recipes I use the whole thing. I grow a lot of them in my garden and scallions are one of the first spring veggies I get.
 
Ya know I have seen them so much and have never bought them, don't know why I haven't. They are something I sure should try since I like to try things new to me.
 
I use all the white and some green sliced on cream cheese sandwiches with a bit of salt. Also they are delicious in salads, in spinach pie, etc. Yummy
