Scam call, Social Security threat.

Scam/spam calls to my cell have increased lately. The latest type is leaving a threatening message in voice mail. The verbiage goes something like this - A legal charge has been filled against your Social Security Account. If you do not call us you will (threat, threat, threat).
I know of nothing that can actually do this. And I will be calling the Social Security Administration this coming Monday.

Chucktin, I have gotten this exact same message twice today. My iPhone detects scam messages and lists them as Scam Likely so I never answer plus it comes up as a phone number I am unaware of so that is also a red flag for me, but the voice mail is pretty much exact from what you stated. Th calls also came within minutes of each other.

Me too!!!! This is a very popular scam. Google it. Mine was a voice mail.. we have noted suspicious activity on your Social Security account you need to call us right away as we are canceling your Social Security account.

So I decided to have a little fun and I called them. The special agent that I talked to had a heavy Indian accent and you could hear lots of fellow telescammers in the background. He asked me for the last four digits of my Social Security number. I told him well since you are with Social Security shouldn’t you already know that? I toyed with him for a while and he started getting snippy with me so I told him that I actually am an employee of the Social Security administration and he immediately hung up.

Scammers are the worst.

I got a call about "my account". I hung up right away. I didn't realize it was a scam. One thing bothers me about scammers is what kind of phone plan do these characters have? They are able to make thousands of calls to all parts of the country. Maybe I should be asking for the scammer's special rate??????

Hmm. New one to me. I've not received any SS related scam calls. But, every few weeks, my Microsoft account is going to be terminated if I don't contact them. And about every month, I am going to jail for back-taxes owed to the IRS if I don't call them back.

The social security scam involves a car found on the side of the road in Texas, near the Mexican border and there is 22 pounds of cocaine in the car. The car was a rental and was rented using YOUR credit card information and your social insurance number. The east indian scammer informs you that your "social" is being cancelled as there is suspicion that you are involved in drug smuggling....And on and on.....Eventually this scammer wants you to go to a store and purchase iTunes gift cards....It would be laughable if not for the fact so many fall for this....Which is so sad. Then of course there's the IRS/CRA scams, credit card scams, duct cleaning scams, free cruise scams....The other day got a call from our local internet/tv supplier with a great deal.....East Indian accent, so I hung up. I checked their site and, it seems, they are having a deal.....Oops....

My scam call yesterday was from the IRS threatening prison time for unpaid taxes. Urged immediate response or severe consequences.

I don't answer the phone unless I recognize the number/name. But I got one of those the other day & they left the threat on my answering machine.........They don't miss a chance.
