I just got an email saying the MS firewall I had bought had just been delivered. The item is described thusly:
MS Defender Firewall | NSA 2650 Secure Upgrade Plus Advanced 2YR | 01-SSC-1995
Cost is $1999 minus a "discount" of $900, so I owe them $1199. (They didn't even bother checking their math! It should have been $1099.)
Looks very official, long order number at the top, and an 800 number to call if there are any questions. And it says I am supposed to rate Flipkart (whoever or whatever that is) on a scale of 1 to 5; how likely am I to recommend them to my friends or colleagues?
No company is ever named, but they are clearly posing as Microsoft, and even weirder, no mention of how I am supposed to pay this sum. It says an invoice is attached to the email, but nothing is attached.
Bunch of amateurs!
P.S. I googled the phone number they gave, and found a long history of this scam, with many complaints. Usually they operate by phone calls. Be on the lookout for them.
