Scrap Gold Buy back

As World economy gets in crisis, the sharks are emerging.
In Australian big cities "Buy scrap gold" is on every corner.
Low prices for your family's memories, minus commission are paid by ounce and/or gram (weight) minus commission.
The undamaged pieces of jewellery, sovriens and etc. are cleaned and polished, ending up in various outlets as
"Deceised estate items"
I wont mention by whom, as it would be "Politically incorrect, and shovinist"
Please comment.
 

There used to be a procession of them who would set up a stall in the country town malls in the Hunter Valley since years ago. I guess they must have gotten a few suckers but I never saw anyone go near them. They'd sit there with their sign, and their scales, and their jeweller's glass and stare at the wall out of boredom. I thought that was too entertaining for the parasites personally.

Didn't seem to be any particular ethnicity to it, some were Asian, some kind of 'swarthy' some just like Bill Jones up the road. My guess is they were agents for someone running the show, probably from Sydney.
 
Once a year or so one of these modern-day traveling gold-diggers will run a full-page ad in the paper offering to pay "millions of dollars" for your old and damaged gold and silver jewelry, coins, antiques, etc.

It boldly claims that their "appraisers" are ready to help you convert that junk into REAL CASH!

I don't know how they do, since I've never attended one of their soirees, but the fact that they advertise every year must mean something.

There are also the local sharks - pawn shops, jewelers, etc. - that offer pennies on the dollar for your birthright, and I think they do quite well in these places. A lot of the older population is dying off here and I suppose their kids are grabbing the cash to pay for their next Playstation ...

There's a commercial on the local channels here that is perhaps THE most annoying commercial I have ever seen, more annoying even than the one where Alex Trebeck tries to sell me life insurance.

There's a guy named James Diamond (yeah, sure!) in the Poconos and he's got this James Brown imitator singing about how James Diamond will give you CASH for your gold and silver, and Diamond showers "The Godfather" with money at the end of the song. Just the way he talks at the end of the commercial, he's one of those individuals that you just want to punch in the face for being so smug.

Now he's got a new commercial where he refers to himself as "The Goldfather", and even steals a tune from the Godfather movie. :mad:
 
We see a lot of those jokers on street corners, flipping around their signs while they listen to music or talk on their cell phones. If I ever had to sell any gold, it would be to an established reputable coin and jewelry establishment, not these fly by night outfits that may get a spot in a strip mall, and be gone in a month. No way you're getting a fair price from them, but as already mentioned, if they're hocking grandma's jewelry or auntie ann's stolen locket, they want to get rid of it quick, and will take whatever they can get.
