Search your SF name. Your posts are there.

Why I did this, I don't know. But I did an internet search of a member's SF name and their threads came up immediately. I use Duck Duck Go.

I always knew what one puts out there is available to all but thought it would require coming to the SF forum to see posts. Nope.
yes I knew this... I can search almost any subject as well.. and I can be sure a post about that subject will come up from SF....

I must be doing something wrong. I put MACKTEXAS into the Google Chrome searchbar, hit enter, and I don't see my posts. Then I went to Duck Duck Go and I don't see them over there either. Is there something else I should be doing?
I entered your SF name just now using Duck... Page 4 showed a post by you.

I was under the impression that what happened on SF stayed on SF. Yes, open to those who come here but not to the general internet population.

Edited to Add: That changes a lot for me.

If I Google MACKTEXAS I get Max Verstappen.

If I Google MACKTEXAS Senior Forums I get this:

Who is going to Google that?
I'm not worried. They would have to know that I'm Messy and post on Senior Forums and then what. Yippie they can watch all my dumb videos and read the nonsense I wrote. Good luck with it.

The searcher would have to know what nom de plume you use.
I'm Messy on some christian forums. Good luck finding it. I can't even find it myself. Sometimes I want to look up a post about a subject for which I Googled stuff. Can't find it.

I just searched and there are a lot of people using my name that have teaching companies, etc. and there’s many people that come up, but I’m not one of them. Who would’ve guessed it would be so popular.

Thank you for explaining. I don't doubt your findings, but Duck isn't installed as a browser on my laptop, so I just went to the Duck website and did a search, which shows results, but not by page numbers. Duck keeps prompting me to sign up.

I understand your concern, but I'm okay about this, since there's nothing I've posted that I would care if everyone I know sees. I've even told some friends in my community about SF, and suggested they try it, but to my knowledge, none have. I am aware that guests to the site can read posts anyway, even those of members who "hide" their profiles. It's done by using the "search" tab on the far right of the blue bar and entering the name of the member in the "posted by" field, then clicking "search."

As regards something you put on line being there forever, there are many reasons this is not so. Many websites or pages disappear. Social sites are included in this, and even if they still continue, a moderator or the poster can delete whatever he wants. I know of three social websites in the UK that have closed without trace. The Internet Archive takes screen shots of websites past and present, and has much more: Internet Archive: Digital Library of Free & Borrowable Texts, Movies, Music & Wayback Machine .
