Gerald H. Storer, 99, Lewiston
Gerald (Jerry) Harvie Storer passed away Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, at his Lewiston home.
He was born in Texline, Texas, June 24, 1907, to William Harvie and Elizabeth Dennis Storer. From there his family moved to Nebraska, Wyoming, and then Idaho.
He became a member of the Army Air Corps during World War II, attended officer's training school, became a major and was awarded the American Theater Ribbon and Victory Medal for serving his country.
After the war, he lived and worked in California for several years before moving to Lewiston, where he was an advertising salesman for the Lewiston Morning Tribune. He was later employed at Erb Hardware in charge of producing and printing the wholesale catalog.
During that employment he became involved with the Nez Perce County Fair, which was held in the Thometz Pavilion, located in North Lewiston, next to the Lewiston Roundup Grounds. Because of his interest in the fair, he was approached by the fair board to oversee the design, construction and financial procurement for the current fairgrounds in the Lewiston Orchards. After construction was completed, he was hired as the fairgrounds manager, a position he held for 22 years; he also served as treasurer of the fair board for 25 years. After his retirement from the fairgrounds, he managed the local Masonic Temple and was a member of the temple for many years.
Jerry also managed the Lewiston Hereford Association Show and Sale for several years. Among his many duties, one was to gather all the information pertaining to each animal for production of every show catalog. He served on the Lewiston Orchards Irrigation Board for six years.
He was best known in the community as the keeper of "Ahmed the Camel" for the Calam Temple of the Shrine's organization. He and Ahmed spent many years traveling to different Shriner events to help raise funds for the crippled children's hospital that helps so many free of charge.
In 1961 he married Jacqueline B. Clarke of Lewiston, and she survives him at the family home. Jerry is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Barbara C. and Myron C. Wicks of Newman Lake, Wash.; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia J. and Donald J. Eickhoff of Clarkston; sisters, Thelma Gurley and Hazel Hibbard of Boise; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Darline Heilman.
At his request, no services will be held.
