Seasons

Thought our seasons would be interesting to share, with so many from different places.

Here, i'm surprised our leaves haven't turned colour prematurely because of being so dry.
About a week ago, the fall colours started showing.
Maybe we can enjoy them before jackfrost shows up.

On a sad note......the hummingbirds have left......the purple martins have left.....very few goldfinches now.
But, the ones that stop here on they're way south, have not arrived yet......maybe a sigh of a long fall.
Heard whooping cranes yesterday, they were too high, couldn't see them.....they're probably on their travels as well.....they don't stay very late.

Please share your seasons.

Oh, gosh, @Lewkat, that makes me think of when my (then) husband ordered a short-sleeved shirt from Lands’ End in late August. We’re in Georgia. The rep at the company was so apologetic…”I’m sorry, that’s on back order. You wouldn’t get it til mid September”. “No problem,ma’am, there’s still plenty of short-sleeve weather to go here!”

If I hadn't grown up in NE Ohio, I wouldn't even know what 'seasons' were ....

We moved to the Arizona desert, after college days.
We would enjoy winter and snow by driving to Flagstaff at year's end. The kids wanted to make a snowman, so we piled snow in the back of our truck and brought it back to Phoenix. They made a snowman in our front yard.

Then moving to Houston, I was told that we have two seasons .... Summer & February..😀 ..it's something like that most years.

We get to watch the migrating birds here. They still seem to know their seasons. (y)

I do remember the beautiful Fall foliage in the New England states - just breathtaking! Took trips up there to see Fall in its glory, and we loved the covered bridges too.
And I still recall snow drifts in Ohio growing up, several feet high. That was only fun as a kid.... even the year the National Guard had to come to our rescue.

Here, in the middle of the country, we still get the 4 seasons. Winter is usually fairly cold for a couple of months, Spring brings lots of rain, Summer can be very hot, then Fall finally rewards us with some nice mild weather.

Our trees are just starting to turn color, and the birds are still chirping nicely, and we're still having to refill the hummingbird feeders every 2 or 3 days. Soon, the lawnmowing activity will be replaced with blowing leaves away from the house, and chain sawing the dead trees in the forest for Winter firewood for the outdoor furnace.

I lived in CT for 2.5 years and the first year fall came around and I swore there were lights mounted inside some of those trees...they glowed with color. An ordinary 15 minute drive to work was a like going through Disneyland with all the color.

(It was then I remembered that New England was famous for its fall foliage. It takes me awhile, but I catch on.)

We still have seasons, but they are much more intense,
they are also warmer, the rains if they come are Amazonian
style, the summer mainly Sahara style, the heat is very, very
hot for people who are acclimatised to a cooler version, we
don't really get snow either these days, there were a few
flakes last winter, they didn't last an hour.

These new seasons have caused most of the birds and the
insects to move ahead of the heat.

Mike.

Mike, last year I had a robin and mourning dove each have two sets of young on my patio. This summer I only see a few in the yard and no nests were built on the patio, very concerning.
