Leave or be towed': City officials warn remaining RVs in SODO to leave as MLB All-Star Week looms

This should be interesting as city has cleaned tourist areas and areas around stadium for the MLB all-stars........ but activists vowed to have the rvs and homeless return as the tourists and media coverage of the all- star week

one business owners take:
“I can come out here and I’m not harassed," said Russell Meyer, who owns a business along the SODO stretch. "I’m not smelling urine. I’m not smelling feces. I don’t have people wandering in my building and stealing stuff. I don’t have to deal with drug use in my parking lot, vandalism. I’m not parking half a mile down the street just to come to work because the street’s full of RVs and tents.”

Meyer said it is "nice" to see the cleanup.

This type of thing is done before any major sports events like the SuperBowl, etc.
These events generate large sums of money for the choosen cities.

The city usually makes quiet moves to 'redirect' the homeless to less visible areas.

Here in 2019, we hosted the NFL Draft and the city made about 137 million (USD) for the event.

After the events, things slowly return to 'normal' and the city goes on about its business.
Not sure if any of the monies (millions) generated goes to addressing the homeless problem.

I'm so thankful every day for a stable roof over my head. This roof was bought 70 years ago when we made the Big Move. Thanks to my parents, my mother, I'm still safe.

This moving of the homeless for events is so third world. There is a solution, and it's all to do with will and money. It always is.

No one was ever homeless when I was a kid except the drunks lying in the gutters in the Bowery. There was always enough money for a room with shared kitchen & bath if need be. Even if just for one night to clean up; get sleep then go out and be a bum again. Flophouses, they were called. SROs, Single Rooms Only. It's heartbreaking to see so many with nowhere to go but a shelter which offers more terror than comfort.

I'd really love to see an in-depth study; with facts, figures and statistics. With biographies.

A vet should never be homeless.

I just think all the other times........ they do not clean up for their citizens ....... their taxpayers ....... small businesses are closing and moving out of Seattle
but want to sweep an issue (they have let grow unchecked) under the rug for an event ... and media coverage/ tourism.

If it is not worth their efforts to try to clean up normally and they seem to embrace the urine filled air
Why hide it....... show the country how well your programs are working .......embrace the chaos......
yes they will be back after ....
but now they moved them south into other smaller cities and neighborhoods ......... so they can embrace the issue.......

I'm sure the businesses and others who live near or frequent the area will be thankful for the break and happy to share the burden of the homeless with someone else for awhile. I would suggest moving them to city hall.

To where?
Here in Sacramento, when the city displaces the displaced, they offer them all a free bus ride to the local missions and shelters.

Most of them don't get on the bus. They know where to go when they have to leave where they were. They get that info from the more seasoned homeless people in their group. And it depends on the weather. Like, if they have to move in summer, they go to one of the rivers. In winter, they either go quite a ways south or a little ways east.

Understood
But.....there's so many now
