My stylist had Covid three weeks ago. She felt like she had a bad sinus infection, then lost all sense of smell. She got tested when she lost her sense of smell and tested positive. Her teen son and husband also had mild cases. Her husband got tested but not the son because his only symptom was complete loss of smell for a few days. She called all her clients from the day she worked sick and at three weeks out now, it doesn't seem that she infected anyone. Several had already had it. She guestimates from all the client's reports that nearly half the salon's demographics (white, middle class) in the town of appx 30,000 has had it based on reports of positive tests. Probably more since those with mild or asymptomatic cases usually don't get tested. We've had very few deaths locally and those were all either elderly and/or with known risk factors. A lot of the elderly infected here have not even needed hospitalization. Only thing I can think of is that what's circulating here is a milder strain like one of the milder ones in California early on.

As for the doctor visit, it was by phone since he currently has it. :( He's a graduate of a top 15 medical school and is a believer in starting hydroxychloroquine given in conjunction with zinc and azithromycin as early as possible in the disease process. He has read every study, analyzed their design and feels that though it isn't a "cure all" for everyone, it is safe and beneficial. He got his test result Monday, felt very unwell Monday , started the triple combo and was feeling much better yesterday. He's keeping stats and I'm interested to see what they show after this is over.

I shared all this with my mom yesterday. She called a few minutes ago to say she checked her calendar and that she'd been to that salon the day before my stylist developed symptoms. Yikes. They do well with precautions though. They had room to spread stations beyond six feet when salons were allowed to reopen earlier in the year, all stylists wear masks at all times when in the public area, only one client per stylist is allowed in the building at a time (we call when we arrive in the parking lot and they call back when they're ready for us to come in), and clients are required to wear masks.

good thing you didn't go in. they were trying to tell me it was safe at our clinic. lol!
