Secular end-of-life sendoffs

Thanks for this forum, Starsong!! This is something that can be difficult to discuss but needs to be talked about!
You're welcome. I suspected that I couldn't be the only one who was prematurely wrestling with this issue.

I would say: It is about the service, whether it's secular or religious, it's a piece of theatre that we need, in order to come to terms with, the loss of someone we hold very dear in our hearts. I'm not arguing the point, the after service party is important.
I agree. I've held and attended end-of-life celebrations without a service of some kind, and strongly felt that something important was lacking.

Since I'm 78 and the clock is ticking, I inquired to the parish I once belonged to and grew up with about a plot for myself next to my father. The going price I was told was $800 just for the ground and the hole. I imagined my eventual remains not only in a coffin but also a concrete vault for eternity or until the Angel Gabriel comes looking for me on judgement day, and it doesn't sit well with me. I'm going to inquire about cremation tomorrow. I'm considering the ashes be sprinkled on the grass over the family graves which will still put me with them but not in a stinking concrete vault.
