Bound to happen. Never taking any notice of the effects of what I have eaten over my lifetime.
Any tips on naturally lowering Cholesterol and Blood sugar levels?
I am not into, and have never done any physical exercise.
Plus right now I have a broken ankle so any exercise is out of the question

I'm afraid that there are no easy answers other than medication, diet, and exercise.

The frustrating thing for me about diabetes is that there is no cure and it continues to get worse over time.

Good luck!

Curious, if one was to cut out sugar then that would lower blood sugar levels?

Hello. Let me say this: you do not want to tip over into diabetes. Diabetes changes everything. In essence, your body will not handle sugar properly, and sugar (including heavy sugar foods) will drive up your blood sugar. Untreated (or not dealt with), it could get really ugly, including going into a diabetic coma or even losing some of your body parts, such as feet. And, once you have diabetes, it doesn't go away; your body's inability to deal with sugar is a life-long thing.

It is more than just cutting out sugar, although that's a good start. It would be best to start dealing with your food intake now, before it gets worse. And, yes, exercise will help a great deal.

I have diabetes, but mainly deal with it through food (no medication, no insulin, etc.). It would also help to look into what nutrition various foods have. This website will help: https://nutritiondata.self.com/

I don't mean for this to sound so terrible, but ... well, it is what it is. But you're lucky — you haven't lapsed into full-blown diabetes yet, and can do something about it!

I'll let someone else(s) answer re cholesterol.

Thank you for your insight and advice.
I had a quick read about diabetes and the recommendation, and most helpful thing one can do is losing weight,
I am at least 25 kg, 53lb, overweight. So starting there would be beneficial.

I look for products with little or no added sugar and it does help.

Foods with high amounts of natural sugar or starch will spike your blood sugar.

We are all different and at different stages of the disease so it is really best to follow the advice of your physician.

You should also have regular eye exams as your diabetes progresses to check for signs of diabetic retinopathy.

Yes, an ophthalmologist is key for checking out detached retinas, etc. Also, I've heard eliminating anything white because of carbohydrates: rice, sugar, mashed potatoes, white gravy, ice cream, etc. In addition to excess sugars.

Pre Diabetes and some Diabetes can get under control by diet--I have done that. I was diagnosed with Diabetes type 2 about 3 years ago and have controlled it by diet. I do that by eating 30-45 carbs per meal a day. I look at all food labels and follow them according to my limits. Strawberries and other berries are the best sweets, and dark chocolate is okay in moderation. I don't eat any white rice, bread or pasta most of the time. I substitute with whole grains, rye, and wheat and multi grains. Doing a search for food to eat when you have diabetes gives many additional foods.

As for high cholesterol I had that, too, and could not take any of the statins as prescribed for everyday use. I did not get that under control by diet so now my doctor has prescribed a non statin called Eziteme 10 mg. or better known as Zetia for once a day and a low dose of a statin once a week ==Crestor 5 mg. one pill a week. They have lowered my cholesterol significantly and into the range my doctor wants.

I started taking calendula (marigold seed extract)...about a year ago...it lowered my blood sugar and I don't have to take everyday...
I also take cinnamon to help my body metabolize sugar....take care best you can
I rarely go to the doctor, so I just have little info to give. I have type 2 in my immediate family, and when tested by my doctor years ago, my A1C was over 6, in 2019 I had a free glucose test at Costco, and it was 5.6. Ideally, diet and exercise will help those with diabetes. I've never been diagnosed with pre-diabetes. I haven't changed much in my diet, and although I joined a gym and exercised more before coronavirus, I haven't been there for a long time. I only walk daily with the dog.

I've been taking supplements like Bitter Melon and Chromium Picolinate, recently bought some "Ceylon" cinnamon, but it's very expensive. Everyone should research supplement side effects and drug interactions, and ask their doctor before taking anything.

Kudos to those like @Ruthanne, who have improved their health by working hard and making hard lifestyle changes. Much respect.

My doctor told me it was pretty common for people my age to be "pre-diabetic" and have high cholesterol. I take Atorvastatin for my cholesterol and try not too eat too much greasy food, and I exercise a bit. If that doesn't keep me safe from heart disease, I guess it will just be my time to go. :ROFLMAO:
I had high cholesterol and to this day take Atorvastatin. For a long time it was not sufficient and circa 2003, I was also given Niaspan. It really did the trick, but the doctor had me stop taking Niaspan circa 2011. Suggested I take 1400mg fish oil/900 mg Omega 3, twice a day. I have been doing that since, along with the atorvastatin and total cholesterol is around 150. The good and bad might not be what they should be, however.

Thank you. I need to make some changes.
I had great success with "Cholest Off" and OTC supplment many many years ago and after it got back to normal very quickly it never got high again and it has been probably 20 years or more.
I think I need to speak to my Doctor and at least reduce my Cholesterol rapidly then work on the dietary aspect.

However, you can have naturally high cholesterol. My daughter was vegan for 20 years and has been a vegetarian for the last 18 plus years. She has high cholesterol and so do I but I eat cow, chickens, and an occasional pig. 😊

Well, these things sound like exercise to me, maybe after your broken ankle heals well. You posted them as things you like to do: Camping, fishing, beach combing, bush walking, easy mountain climbing, canoeing, crabbing. They all sound like fun, too (not sure about fishing). So you have done physical exercise. You don't have to go to a gym.

If you have a physical therapist, you may get some tips from them about what you will be able to do after your ankle heals. I hope it heals very well, so you can return to your fun activities. Don't read anything into this -- I don't know much about broken bones, and I am not any sort of healthcare professional.

Also, here is a site with lots of info: https://www.diabetes.org/

Yes. I am rather active in my hobbies. Though I never, or rarely build up a sweat. Still at least 20 kg overweight so I need to drop those kilos.
Thank you for the links.
I need to take control so I do not have a Cholesterol related Stroke.

Fishing is fun.

I actually think he was expecting a new wife to get one of those backpacks (like a baby carrier 😂) and haul him up the mountainsides. A female ex-ranger would be up for the task, I am sure. Plus she would be able to pull a sled with all his cameras and other necessary gear. Army Strong is the way to go! (Just teasing).

Hopefully your ankle gets better fast. 🤗
