Seems like cameras are everywhere

We have a doorbell camera and it lets us see that packages are delivered when we are away. We can get it when we get home or ask a neighbor to collect it for us. There was a rash of stop light and speed cameras that have seemingly gone by the wayside when lawsuits hit the courts. I can see how cameras are a real help to law enforcement, but I'm not sure exactly how I feel about license plate readers. Maybe they play a role for law enforcement that I just haven't thought through yet.

The cameras that really give me pause are the ones that record real time proof of crimes. Don't people realize the world is watching. Then we see that someone uses their phone to record the scene of a person on a train being beaten while the public sits and watches. Maybe my sense of right and wrong is backwards.

There was a similar thread to this sometime ago. I just assume I'm on someone's camera no matter where I go, and I have cameras on my own house recording what's happening outside 24/7. I suppose late night criminals just disguise themselves or wear hoodies, because some cars were burglarized in my area a few months ago.

"Red light" cameras were outlawed in Texas in 2019. If any municipalities still have them, they cannot use the video for enforcement purposes anymore.

License plate readers are still in use but with enforcement restrictions. Last year, I got a bill in the mail for a few dollars from the North Texas Toll Authority for traveling on a toll road (camera captured my license plate). I sent them a check for it,but I feel it was unfair since I saw no sign notifying me I was entering a toll road.

Edited to add: years ago there was a toll booth to pay a toll before getting onto a toll road. Those were removed. I suppose we're just supposed to know when we're on a toll road. Those who use them frequently have a toll tag on their car. I do not, so it wouldn't be worth it to me to pay monthly for a tag.

Apparently the uk has the most watched population of all of Europe. There's literally cameras everywhere... and the latest ones that have been mounted on existing speed cameras, are cameras which take photos of inside your vehicle and they're so sophisticated they can see if you've got drugs or alcohol in the consul... or if you're using your phone on your lap for example..

we have cameras in the roads, in the stores, in the malls, in the hotels, in the motels, in the car parks, in the pubs, restaurants.. in the street..... everywhere...

There is a part of me that doesn't care if they watch me. I can see how it would be good to catch bad guys - if they actually use it for that.

However! --- there is a bigger part of me that is a bit old fashioned and thinks it's over reach. In general, people should be able to come and go without being watched every second of every day.

I have cameras outside my home and so far they have assisted 2 neighbors with crimes.
There has been one guy interested in my Honda CRV 2 weeks in a row back in Feb of this year.

I have opened a case with local police but so far no luck.
My cameras did come from China and one brand is known to "call home" so I have them on a network that is not permitted to travel on the internet.

when i was a greeter at Walmart I would count all the camera I could see. every time I would see one I had not seen before. there is not any place they do not have a camera always watching. they keep a good eye on their employees.
