Seen Anything Interesting While Driving? Post Your Dash Cam 'images' here!

Thought it’d be fun to have a thread where we share what our dash cams have picked up -- mostly still images, but feel free to drop links to video clips you have saved, if you are that way inclined.

Whether it’s beautiful country lanes, the odd close call, or that deer, or maybe even Sasquatch deciding to cross the road at the wrong time. Static images or short clips are both welcome.

If you don’t have a dash cam, an image taken with your phone from inside your car looking out at that big bad world will do just as fine. Bonus points for a good story behind it. I’ll start...

This photo was taken with a phone. I was on the M6 motorway heading toward Birmingham, just past midnight, when two police cars came speeding past. Then, the traffic ahead began to slow down.

At that point, another police car pulled up alongside me, then moved in front. The illuminated sign in the rear window cycled between the words "Don’t" and "Pass."

Soon after, a police van came through the now stationary traffic, followed by an ambulance. I flicked through radio channels, trying to find a traffic update. Eventually, I heard something to the effect that someone was on a bridge over the M6, standing on the wrong side of the barrier.

After about an hour, the traffic began moving again. I passed under several bridges, and thankfully, there was no visible sign of any incident. I checked the news websites the next day, but couldn’t find any mention of it.

A temporary repositioning of my dash cam, just for the hell of it. The top image is of the relatively short Winnats Pass. I’ve driven through this pass countless times.

Legend has it that an eloping couple were murdered here in 1758, their bodies discovered beneath the steep cliffs. The couple being pursued by the woman's father or by someone the father sent out to follow them. According to various versions of the tale, the young couple fled together, hoping to escape the father’s disapproval of their relationship, but their escape was tragically cut short.

Other versions say they were killed by highwaymen or miners working in the area. The pass is located near Castleton, which is famous for Blue John Stone -- a rare and distinctive semi-precious mineral found only in the Peak District. It's thought that the Romans took the mineral back to Rome. It’s still sold in local shops today.

Welcome to a glimpse of aspects of my part of the world.

Driving on a mostly empty dual carriageway at 70 mph in the early hours of the morning:

A Ford Grand C-MAX caught me up in the inside lane at a great rate of knots and almost ran into the back of me. The driver then swerved to the right, passed me, and swerved back to the left.

They overcorrected, almost left the road, and clipped a cone, before swerving back into the outside lane and staying there until they disappeared into the distance. In the UK, when passing traffic on a dual carriageway or motorway, you are supposed to pull back in, as part of the Keep Left Rule. Not drive into the distance remaining in the outside lane.

I got the impression the driver didn't know where he was or what he was doing. Was this driver under the influence of something?
