My Kroger has had self checkout for some time, in addition to regular checkers. They have now installed self checkout stations with a conveyor belt which takes your items down to the end of the station and you bag from there. You MUST put the item on the belt or the computer won't register the purchase. Everything just piles up at the end so you have to be careful not to scan your tomatoes before your potatoes. Big and heavy stuff first. Bread last. Then you scan all your coupons and the attendant comes over to get the coupons. Now you pay and start to bag your items.
So, when I'm all done I ask the attendant...when do I get my paycheck for doing all this? She laughs (because she can see I'm kidding (sort of), and says it will be direct deposited in my account by Thursday. I should have asked for the corporate phone number so I can call when they neglect to pay me.
I really believe the customers should get a 10% discount for using the self service lanes.
I saved $23.04 using my paper and e-coupons by the way. (Referring to a different post asking who uses coupons.)
