Not for me. I hate to feel rushed and the voice telling me to. "Put. the item. in. the bag!" over and over after I have actually put the item in the bag, makes me want to abandon all and stomp out.
So, I wait patiently in line, surreptitiously looking at what other people are buying and judging them accordingly. I also need time to read the tabloids and see who's cellulite that is.

If there's no other option, I'll look for a business that provides one. If you're going to separate me from my money, you can at least provide another human to take it from me. Maybe when the machines start thanking us for shopping with them. No, not even then. Don...

I went into a Walmart Neighborhood Market last week and there were NO manned checkout lanes -- they've removed then and put in all self checkout. I almost left because I had a basketfull of stuff, but decided I didn't want to go elsewhere and start over. It took forever and a nice employee finally came and helped me out. The biggest problem is that the reader couldn't read the barcodes on all the stuff for some reason.
I doubt I'll go to that store again.
