Self Introduction

Hello Fellow Seniors,

My name is Hal, age 81. (on July 11)

I'm a retired Aerospace Lab Test Engineer, retired in July 1998 from Boeing in Long Beach, California.

I live in the Southern California High Desert Town of Apple Valley (near the late Roy Rogers home), in the Mojave Desert at 3000 feet elevation.

I have many interests, including Music (playing and listening), Astronomy, Reading, Light Exercising (bicycle), Target Shooting, and Tinkering with and building Electrical and Mechanical gadgets.

My wife and I love pets and presently have 2 Dogs, 2 Cats, 2 Parakeets, and 4 Desert Tortoises.

I hope I'll enjoy this Forum, and will be able to post pictures.

Cheers,
HiDesertHal

Welcome from a former neighbor! Lived in Apple Valley from 1983-1990 out near the airport off Waalew Rd. Was friends with Roy and Dale, they are truly missed. Nothing beats the high desert....

Welcome Hal. I'm also a retired Test Engineer and still enjoy tinkering with gadgets too. Years ago we visited Roy's museum and saw all his old mementos and Trigger. I'm down in the flat lands of Orange County.

Hey Grampa Don,

We moved UP from Anaheim to the High Desert after retiring in 1998, to a semi-rural environment. No rushing traffic, Clear Skies, with the Milky Way visible on moonless nights, and even a touch of Snow in some winters! Very little rain, with low humidity the year round.

The only noises we hear are from Ravens and an occasional Coyote yelp.

Some of the gadgets I build are Van de Graaff Electrostatic Generators, Large Model Railroad Layouts (Ho, O, and G), and currently a 70-foot Slot Car course.

Welcome from another relative newcomer from a very different part of the world. Retired children's services manager living on the border between England and Scotland - Hadrian's Wall is just up the road!

Two border terriers!

Welcome aboard Hal.

I lived in Apple Valley back in 1977 (as a civilian) while going through some desert training on George AFB prior to going to Libya......cactus, big jackrabbits, tumbleweeds and rattle snakes is what sticks in my mind.

I saw ol' Roy Rogers about 3/4 lit one night coming out of the bar in the bowling alley, I guess Dale had come after him and she was right on his heels giving him hell. :).......I went through his museum while there but I heard it was shut down a few years back as well as George AFB.

I drove up to Big Bear a couple of times and really liked it even tho it was touristy.

Hal, well yeah. You're correct, my life is quite different from yours, for one being female and all. :) Except that I, too, am 81 years old--April 26, 2017.
