Sorry to hear of your loss.
I too am deaf, or nearly so. Fortunately, I have discovered a headphone amplifier that makes a big difference. That, plus closed captioning allows me to enjoy movies etc.

Welcome Salina, and sorry for your loss. Losing a parent is always hard.
Not deaf, but I recently got hearing aids. My hearing loss is in the high frequency range, I am amazed at how much of the world of sound I have been missing. Everything from door hinge squeaks to birds chirping, all new to me now. Not the same I know.
The good news is you don't have to be able to hear to fit right into this place. Reading and writing is all it takes.
Looking forward to hearing more about you.
