Senioritis

Yes, we all get that as we get older. Not fun! But I’m learning to live with it, just like the aches, pains and stiffness. One trick I’ve learned is to stand still quietly in that room for a few seconds, and the reason for going into that room does pop back into my brain. And so do names eventually come back, but maybe it will take a little longer. I don’t worry about it anymore. It’s just a fact of life with aging.

I've found if I've lost something I can sit quietly and walk through the house in my mind stopping at various corners etc and I'll remember where I left it!
I recall names but going through the alphabet.
Same here. I run through the alphabet, too, to remember names.

I get senioritis when I'm mentally multitasking, I'm walking to go do something while having thoughts going in a 1/2 dozen directions. Not only do I forget why I walked into a particular room, I also forget what the item was that I wanted to google...that really upsets me!

I'm fortunate to have married a younger (than me) woman. I'll be 90 in a few months and I need all the help that I an get.

The young lady whom I married helps me with my memory problems. Her birthday is a couple of weeks away and she'll only be reaching 87. Big difference! In fact, back when we were 19 and 17 her recall ability was better than mine.:p

I write everything down. When I want to get something from another room it is on my list as soon as I think of it. I keep a list of my plan of what to do tomorrow or whenever. It helps.

Great idea. I also now go and do exactly what I thought of right t that moment. I no longer procrastinate. If I think of it, I’m on it.

I kept an eye on my brother-in-law's mother when she started going downhill mentally. In a matter of a few months, her vocabulary decreased dramatically.

Everything became "that person", "that place", "that thing", etc.

She'd ask me, "Can you drive me to that place?"

"What place?"

"You know, that place where that person works."

Questioning would lead me to the realization that she wanted to go to the bank and talk to her favorite teller about something.

"And then can we go to that place where you buy things to cook?"

"The grocery store?"

"Yes, that place."

Yes! Multi-tasking and keeping your daily chores all in your head-uhg! I just keep on going. It will catch up with me later.

I put it on voice memo on my iphone but I need to be quick ..if distracted even for a moment some of em escape me....

If I forget the reason for going into a certain room I usually remember when I go back into the room I came from.

When I go grocery shopping I always forget the item that I went for so I often take a list. Sometimes I don't take a list on purpose so I get to stroll down all the aisles and look at Everything.

Sometimes I forget a word I'm thinking of but can't name. I then put it out of my mind and eventually it pops out and I remember.

Once in awhile I will call the dog by the bird's name and vise versa. Then I say to each one of them their names so they think they are as special as always and they are.

and here I am, struggling to accept the realization that youth is no longer on my side. all these age-onset maladies really, really suck! cyber sympathies to all that are currently experiencing them...
