Seniors, Are You Treated Better, Worse or the Same In Your Old Age?

When out in public as a senior, do you find yourself being treated better, worse or the same as you always were in your old age. I don't notice any changes in how I'm treated yet, but I've noticed some older people being treated poorly by some in public places.

If there's an elderly person walking slowly through a doorway, in a store or parking lot, I can see younger people being very rude, pushing past them, and giving looks of disapproval. If I see an elderly person, I make sure to hold the door, and assist them if needed. Whether walking or driving, I am kind to the elderly.

There are some much older seniors in my Silver Sneakers exercise class, and I help them put their chairs and equipment away, and try to help if they are struggling.

Do you notice any different treatment from others in public now that you're in your golden years?

I was at walmart today and the guy in front of me at check out was disabled. he was using one those electric carts. had a hard time getting his stuff out of the basket so i stepped in and did it for him. a big grin and a thank you. made my day

I have noticed that the attitudes towards me in major department stores have changed and not for the better. My wife shops at Neiman Marcus. Nordstrom's and a few other high end retail stores, but only for Christmas gifts and the store's associates just aren't as polite as they used to be. When we shop at Penney's or Sears, the treatment has always been fine. Why the difference? I have no idea.
