Serious cold snap coming through the US

I guess that old Polar Vortex is coming through the US again. Got to remember to be safe. I did find this graphic, thought I would share. My niece shared it on her FB page, and I commented my realization that in MY neighborhood...I am the elderly neighbor. Oh Gosh.

I have a feeling that most of us elderly neighbors are better equipped to handle these situations than some of the younger folks! :)

The winter weather here in Florida still shocks wife and I. Guess we should have checked deeper on just how cold it can get here in northeastern Florida. We were told, after we got here, that the northern part of Florida can get colder than most people would even think any part of Florida would get. When a person goes outside here, on some mornings, you can actually see your breath. Heck, we even have a fireplace in our apartment and that, in itself, shocks some folks that we tell we have it. "You live in Florida and have a fireplace? That's really odd."

We were also under the impression that boating is done here year-around. That definitely isn't true.
 
We’re under a Winter Weather Advisory here in Nashville.

Current info is there will be rain tonight as well as temps well below freezing, bottoming out to wind chills of 10 degrees tomorrow morning. Maybe snow. Definitely ice. It’ll all freeze. Roads extremely hazardous. Single digit wind chills, pus temps won’t get above freezing again most of the week with a temp around 9 degrees predicted for Thurs am. This is very unusual for Nashville.

If the ice is as bad as predicted, I may not make it in to work at all tomorrow. My subdivision roads get bad in weather like this with the hills etc. I can watch out my window as cars slide down the hill in front of my street. The street leading out of the subdivision is even worse, that one going uphill to get out, and cars trying to navigate it and sliding backwards, in some cases into each other! but it's the only road out of the subdivision. The main road after that is even worse and cars routinely go off the side of the road everywhere! Folks send in photos to our Neighborhood Website of all the wrecks, slides, ditched cars etc. Not gonna chance it if it gets bad!!!
 
And in the Atlanta area, we *might* get flurries followed by rain and *cold* temps (high of 41F) tomorrow so the schools, including local colleges and universities, are closed, along with city, county, state offices.

They do happen though. In times past cold snaps would destroy the citrus trees far south as Miami. It has even snowed in Miami a couple times, Jacksonville had ice and snow storms. 1977 was one.
 
The coldest blast of the season is due over the next couple of days. Locally, we may break a record Thursday morning. Where is all this Global Warming???

I don't buy that either. In 2015, we had the coldest snowiest winter since they began keeping records in the 1800s. And it's been bad every year since.
 
No mosquitoes here today. Cold snap with temperatures heading -30 F for a few days .

I still go out for a walk every day and if there is no wind it's not too bad if you dress warmly enough.

Re global warming. I checked the historical temperature here for the last 100 years.

There has been no significant change and in fact it is 1/2 a degree colder.
 
The first three days of next week, our temps will be in the upper 70's, which will be much more like Florida. It's cold-to-freezing where we are moving to, but that kind of weather is expected there.
 
Look out for the light dusting of snow some parts of the U.K. are going to get causing chaos.If you are flying to Britain be prepared to be diverted!
 
Bring in the dogs,doubt any of those plastic igloo type structures hold much heat.
I have house cats,there is a feral,I put food out for,I have yet to see it...
 
Keep it up there, it is 59 here right now. It warmed up and stopped raining.
