I retired in June 2015 after 50 years of much labor. Predominantly prior to age 45 I was a long-distance trucker having hauled household goods with Mayflower most of the 15 years as a trucker. I also hauled steel, farm equipment, general freight, and groceries. After working 8 years in the construction industry I returned to hauling household goods with Mayflower in the summer of 1991. In September of 1991, I sustained a back injury that required 2 back surgeries, the first of which was about March of 1992, the second in April of 1993 during spring break between the 2 years of tech school.
By September of 1992, I was enrolled in a 2-year technical school at Morrison, Illinois – Morrison Institute of Technology.
May of 1994 I graduated from this tech school with an Associates Degree in Architectural Engineering, having carried a 4.0 GPA, and performed as my class valedictorian, I was 44 years old upon graduation. I was hired by an Architect Firm in Sioux City, Iowa. There I remained employed until my retirement.
Prior to the beginning of my trucking career, which began in the spring of 1969, I spent 6 weeks in the US Army as an enlistee but was medically discharged.
Now my wife and I have our residence in the Czech Republic as we have family in Germany and elsewhere on this side of the pond.
One of the benefits of living in the Czech Republic is the low cost of living.
We often entertain the idea of moving back to America but are stymied by the high cost of living in America, not to mention the difficulty to understand the process of Medicare and subsequent additional insurance. Medical insurance here in the Czech Republic costs us each month a total of about $190 for both of us.
I joined this forum in the hopes of gathering some vital information to help bring a better view of the actual costs to live in America, specifically medical insurance costs.
