Setting up a different TV with cable box

I took it off a give-away table since my old CRT TV is probably archaic. There was a remote, but no instruction manual with it, but I looked that up online (Emerson LC320EM1F). I got it to work picking up OTA local broadcasts using a "rabbit ears" antenna and the autoscan function, but some channels pixelate a lot. I tried rescanning and some of the same channels reappeared, some didn't and some new ones were included.
However, I really wanted to connect it to my cable box which as a Cisco 4742HDC. I am not sure if just connecting the coax cable would be enough like it is for the CRT. There are connection for HDMI cables and assorted colored holes for other jacks, none of which I have on hand. Would it work with just the coax from the cable box to the TV? Any other advice appreciated.

Sorry. I haven't paid for cable TV since... oh wow, maybe 2009? I hear they've lost so many suckers, er subscribers, that many cable TV systems have closed entire markets or gone out of business. Comcast is already trying to spin off CNBC and MSNBC to sell them because they are losing so much money.

But if your cable box doesn't have RF out and your TV set doesn't have HDMI, S-Video, RGB, or other inputs that the cable box supports... you would need some kind of converter.

The biggest issue with an old CRT set is trying to get rid of it.

Replacing them is pretty darned cheap now though, a 32 inch smart TV can be had new in box for like $100. Black Friday deals would get you a larger current model year unit pretty cheap too.

I don’t understand your question.

All of my televisions have had a ‘cable in’ connection on the back that I just screwed the cable into.

It was the same when my old television required a conversion box, just one cable.

The modern flat screen had an additional step in the menu to select ‘source’.

Two televisions on one cable line would require a cable splitter unless your new home is wired for cable.

Yeah, I looked up the Cisco 4742HDC and it has a coax cable socket labeled "Cable Out" that sends RF to your TV.

So I don't see the issue either, unless your TV is so old you need a balun to convert from 75 ohm coax to 300 ohm twinlead.

It also has composite-video/audio plugs if your TV accepts that.

Try that coax out to the tv idea, see if it works.
