Saw a specialist today for sudden and severe knee pain in my left knee. I woke up last Friday (10 days ago) with severe pain in the joint and was puzzled to why. I had done nothing different in any way for the past two weeks so I could not understand what was happening. The only change in my daily routine was buying a Squatty Potty and that may have triggered the pain. Anyhow the x-rays showed a slight difference in the cartilage on the inside of my knee joint and the outside. The specialist said often pieces of this layer of cartilage between the bones will break off leaving rough edges. The good news is the body will eventually smoothen the edges. He gave me a cortisone shot and said the more active I am with the knee starting now the better off I will be. He offered four weeks of physical therapy three times per week which I will do just to be on the safe side. It is kind of scary to think I could be disabled permanently so today was a good day. He also aid this type of thing is very common to people of my age.
