Shaking the family tree

When you research your family you sometimes find odd professions. Looking at one of the people in my tree on the 1911 UK census I found that her mother's and aunt's professions were both "General ironers" in a laundry

Have you found any odd professions?
 

@Glowworm,, far most appear to have been farmers.
Not sure what maternal grand father did as living.

Given that this area was famous for oil wells,, can't help but wonder about them.

We do know that my husband's grandfather & great grandfather were well tenders.
His family history claims that great grandfather was Native American.

Not really odd, but most of the men in my great grandmother's family were blacksmiths. Then the newer generations of men were chauffeurs or taxi cab drivers. A whole family of men all had the same profession.

I am now having my DNA tested by CRI Genetics which goes back at least to the 12th to 14th century. It includes medical checks and what I am more interested in, is the migration of the families through the ages.
 
I did the 23 and me thing about a year ago. Found no surprises, but it was pretty consistent with what I already knew. My known cousins who had been tested came up, about as they should have. They did find one second cousin I did not know nearby, we exchanged messages and sure enough we are cousins. So in my experience it was pretty accurate. However for under $100 don't expect a real high quality test, you get what you pay for.

I grew up hearing that I had a great great something who was an American Indian, Cherokee, but the testing found no native American DNA at all, that was a minor disappointment. But not too surprising.

I use the Mormon's genealogy website, https://www.familysearch.org/, pretty good for a free site. Just don't give them your name and address, unless you want a missionary visit. LOL, they are pretty low key about things.

You’ve been able to trace your ancestors back to the 12th century?
 
The Mormons came to my door a couple of years ago and I told them I wasn't interested. They asked me if I knew anyone who might be. I pointed at the house across the street with the crazy lady. They looked at each other and started laughing. They said they had already been there.
 
I've said this recently but what the heck I'm old and we like repeating ourselves.
I was raised to be proud of our family history as California Pioneers instrumental in founding the state. Now, I just don't care. The family tree has fallen. Let it rest peacefully in the redwood forest where it last stood.
 
Did 23andme a few years ago. Also got test kits for my son and DIL and my SO. No surprises in any of them. I'm just your basic white guy.

Hey, cousin!!!!! :) I have to agree with you. Apparently, every European is a direct descendent of Charlemagne, Caesar, and Cleopatra. It's mazing how we are all descended from Kings, Emperors, and Tsars. Your mother's cousin's aunt's 8th grandfather on his father's side does not give much of his DNA in you.

And if you want to shake my family tree, you'll need a court order. We don't rat to the cops.
