Shift a figure of speech

I thought I'd put out an idea... Feeling like playing?

What happens if we shift a single word in a common figure of speech? How does it change the mental image, or after a train of thought?? Examples:

"He's a barrel of laughs" --> "He's a barrel of gaffs"
"It was a shotgun wedding" --> "It was a paperclip wedding"

"there was a sight for sore eyes!" --> "there was a sight for sore knees!"
