Shocking statistic from the Fathers rights movement website

I don’t usually watch anything off Facebook but since I didn’t have to join I did.
Its all shocking but the fact that suicide is up by 60% is more disturbing than shocking to me.
Its a depressing subject so I won’t elaborate on my thoughts

The numbers are really disturbing and indeed sad. The 60% rise !! Why?

They noted on addictive drug use, which still baffles me. Why someone picks it up for the first time ? Is beyond me. Not judging, just don't get it.

I'm not talking about those that start out by taking strong pain meds, then seek something even stronger. I'm referring to those that just start for the 'high'.

In today's world there is no way in hell that they do not know the addictive power of these drugs, and the dangers that they present.

I dont know for certain but I think many people with mental disorders choose to use street drugs rather than those prescribed by their doctors with devastating consequences. I’ve never really understood it either but it often leads to homelessness which only makes things worse.

Many psychiatric drugs today prescribed by doctors can lead to suicide or homicide, too many people are on these drugs and they are prescribing them for children younger and younger these days.

People with mental disorders often don't think anything is wrong with them so they don't want to go the doctor.

They can't hold down a job and you have to have a job in order to qualify for Medicaid.

Some can function fine with medical marijuana but without a job nor medicaid, they're penniless and can't afford a doctor to get a prescription for it. They resort to the streets where they are offered free drugs to get them hooked.

A decade or so ago the government shut down the mental hospitals because they were understaffed and overworked and not willing to fund them. This pushed out all the mental patients into the streets. Thus a homeless crisis now.

We also have a crisis with former prisoners released without effective rehabbing.

We now recognize that drug and alcohol use by the mother during pregnancy greatly affects the development of a fetus from the moment of conception but this was unknown or widely ignored 50 and 60 years ago. Are we seeing the product of a parent's unwise behavior in today's mature adults. How many genetic anomalies began in the wild 60s and 70s? Just food for thought ....

I abhor posts like this without a true source.

http://www.who.int/mental_health/prevention/suicide/suicideprevent/en/ says;
Close to 800 000 people die due to suicide every year.
Suicide occurs throughout the lifespan and is the second leading cause of death among 15-29 year olds globally.
Suicide accounted for 1.4% of all deaths worldwide, making it the 17th leading <sic> cause of death in 2015.

https://afsp.org/about-suicide/suicide-statistics/ says;
Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the US
44,965 Americans died by suicide in 2016.
White males accounted for 7 of 10 suicides in 2016.
Men die by suicide 3.53x more often than women.
For every suicide, there are/were 25 suicide attempts

Thank you, HipGnosis, for posting this. I was just about to do a similar post. I knew that 1M couldn't possibly be correct for US-only suicides.
