Shopping for a car

When my ford was written off..I didn't look for another ford...becuase Ford no longer have a good reputation... unlike with my fusion which they no longer make... and all my previous fords.. so I then had to research what makes and model of cars would be suitable for me..

My daughter drives a Rav 4 which cost more than you want to think about.. she buys her cars new..always... and she tried to get me to buy a Toyota... but I found Toyota to be way more than I was willing to pay... and further to that the Insurance was higher than I wanted to pay on a Toyota.. ..
Agree with Ford comments. Have had too many issues with several of them, but kept getting them because we could walk to the dealer. But, other people have not had (apparently) the 'Fixed Or Repaired Daily' experience. At this point, we won't consider anything except a new hybrid.

2022 Toyota Car is rated number #1 at the top of Consumer Reports!
Buy a used one with low miles and pay cash for a better deal.
Mercedes-Benz hit the bottom!

Is this whole how close the dealer is being over thought? Why is it that important? I don't live near anything so it means a drive to get wherever I'm going.

My thought process is, find the vehicle you want and go get it as long it isn't several hundred miles away. I've bought used at a dealer that was nearly a hundred miles from my house. It wasn't a problem at all. Local mechanics worked on the small stuff. The local dealer did the more important repairs.

The truck I'm currently driving I bought new in 2014. The dealer was 50 miles away. Same thing, local mechanics do the small stuff, the local dealer does the big stuff.

I bought my newest car from a dealership in the next county.... My previous car the Ford fusion I bought 150 miles away.....

My daughter once bought a VW Golf in Wales.. so going to another country meant it was much cheaper than buying in the London region

this is mine... .not a bland colour

. when my car was written off ..I had no car, so I had to quickly find another car. Bear in mind I was in hospital for 2 weeks of that...

When I came out I just spent a couple of hours every day looking at cars for sale in my area.. and reading the reviews of the various showroom and garages....and then reading the reviews on the cars themselves...cost of Insurance , common causes of faults etc..and I boght my car within 3 weeks of the accident

I paid cash for my car..

I did this all by myself..I had no-one to help me do it.. just like you deb.. and I did it at age 70...

My point is, if I can do it.. I'm a senior like you.. no-one to give me advice on what to buy.. .. and I managed to do it while recovering from a serious crash and plastic surgery......

You can find all sort of reasons to talk yourself out of it... but I think that throwing good money afer bad on the car you have now is not sensible..
Maybe things are different in Europe. I like dark red or royal blue.

I think Deb likes a close dealer for the convenience of service and repairs, maybe even a feeling of loyality going to the same dealer year after year.

These days any dealer will service and warranty work on the brand they carry, and if it's out of warranty there's lots of independent shops for mechanical work.

You don't even need a dealer these days, shop online using the buy/sell car sites. You can find what you want and they will deliver it to your front door.

Since vision is a real concern today and if you are not poor, get a Tesla with self-driving capability. They are also safe from what I have seen.

If you are rather remote, you might look at buying or building a house closer to a town so that walkability is better.

What we know according to posts

Deb has concerns about failing eyesight.
Deb drives very little
Deb is frugal & has been driving her car needing brake work for several months.
Apparently she has regular maintenance done.

No complaints about engine or transmission.

So it comes down to how long a car will actually be needed. Seems average low milage used cost is around $21,000.00 New in the range of $26,000.00

Only advice I offer if she does decide to have the brake work done make sure the estimate is firm in the quoted price. Considering the corrosion the mechanic could run into time consuming additional work.
